GDC 2013: Fork Parker Interview

“Devolver Digital makes money through completely legal practices”

Mr. Parker, please introduce yourself and your role at Devolver to our readers and tell us how you came to Devolver Digital?

My name is Fork Parker and I am the Chief Financial Officer at Devolver Digital. After bankrupting several other companies through gross negligence and shady business practices, I landed here at Devolver Digital on a work releases program after a small stint in a Texas prison.

How does working at Devolver differ from your previous employers?

Devolver Digital makes money through completely legal practices – this is a rather large departure from my previous employers. Also, my sexual advances towards interns go unreported here which is a nice bonus.

How did Devolver change after you came on board?

The biggest change I brought was keeping track of profits and reinvesting those profits in new games and other projects. Previously, the team at Devolver Digital simply took all profits made and put them in a cardboard box out back only taking some out occasionally to purchase beer and nachos.

What has been the biggest challenge at Devolver for you so far?

The challenge will always be to elevate the games we partner on to the same spotlight as the big games that are released each month. While indie games are widely accepted I still think some of the media outlets are hesitant to give up top news space to what they consider smaller games with smaller communities at the start. But we’re working on it – we’ll get there soon enough.

There are some people around who are doubting your existence. How do you deal with that?

Most of those people have been killed by my team of interns/assassins but for those who still doubt me go to @ForkParker on Twitter. How could someone that doesn’t exist have a Twitter account, huh? That’s impossible.

Thank you very much for taking some time talking to me while riding a jetski, Mr. Parker!
